Grind is a social fitness app built to help lifters track workouts, celebrate PRs, and connect with their community. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Grind is built by Andrew Lacelle and Michael Ambra in Ontario, Canada. Questions? Reach us at info@joingrind.io.

Account information

To create a Grind account, we collect an email address, password, username, and display name.

Profile information

You can optionally add a bodyweight (used to calculate your Grind Score), a gender (used only to improve that calculation's accuracy), and a profile photo. None are required, and you can remove any of them anytime.

Workout and fitness information

We store the exercises, sets, reps, and weights you log, along with each session's date and duration. From this we calculate your personal records and Grind Score. Saved workout templates store their exercise list. If you set up a weekly workout split, we store your planned schedule (which days you train, rest days, and planned exercises) along with your preferred reminder time. Streaks are calculated on your device and aren't stored on our servers.

Social information

If you use Grind's social features, we store who you follow, your reactions, and your comments. If you join a streak challenge, we store your progress in it.

Preferences

We store simple preferences — your unit system and notification choices — so the app remembers them.

Device information

If you enable push notifications, we store a device token to deliver them. Turn this off anytime in your device settings.

Website analytics

Our website uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to understand usage and performance.

How we use your information

To operate Grind's core features: your account, Grind Score and PR calculations, the social and challenge features you choose to use, push notifications you've opted into, and communicating with you about your account.

Your bodyweight

Bodyweight is private by default. When private, other users see your Grind Score but not your exact bodyweight — the two are handled separately for exactly this reason. Change this anytime in your profile settings.

Grind Score

Grind Score is our own proprietary metric, calculated from the weight, reps, and (if provided) bodyweight and gender behind your logged sets. It's not an official competition score, a medical assessment, or a guaranteed measure of your fitness, and we may refine the calculation over time.

What's visible to other users

Your username, display name, workouts, and PRs are visible to people who follow you. Reactions and comments are visible to other users. Bodyweight follows the setting above; Grind Score is visible alongside your PRs and any leaderboard you appear in.

Third-party service providers

International data processing

Some of our service providers are based in, or operate infrastructure in, the United States. Parts of your information may be processed or stored outside Canada, subject to that jurisdiction's laws.

Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. Deleting your account removes your profile, workout history, and social activity from our active systems. Some information may briefly persist in routine backups before being fully purged.

Your privacy rights

Access and correct most information directly in the app. For anything else — access, correction, deletion, or questions — contact info@joingrind.io.

Security

We use appropriate technical safeguards, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is completely secure — please use a strong, unique password.

Children

Grind is intended for use by people aged 13 and older.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be reflected in the date above, with notice before they take effect where they significantly affect how we handle your information.
